Ladies. I have had 2 babies. I know exactly how you are feeling in this new body. It's fun and frustrating and exciting and heavy and it makes you feel sexy and proud but also unflattering and gross. Let me probably not be the first person to tell you this, but you look radiant. There is a reason why everyone smiles at you when you walk by them!
You may not believe me, but before you know it, you will miss this belly. Don't miss the chance to have yourself photographed. Embrace your new temporary body! You won't regret it!
Your child's birth day is the biggest day of your life. It's such an intimate time. To witness and photograph the birth of a baby is one of the most special things in the whole world. So magical. Such real raw tender emotional moments are captured. The images are breathtaking. And the first hours after birth are so euphoric. The most overwhelming amount of love. It's hard to have clear memories because it's a whirlwind of new life.
To have these moments documented is unbelievably precious. The joy they will bring you every time you look at them! Very special photos for the new parents to have. And very special for your child too!
Please contact me if you are thinking about having your birth documented. I can send you my FAQs list and then we can meet for a coffee or milkshake or something! I always meet with my birth clients before booking to be sure we're a good fit! After we sit and chat we can spend a bit of time doing a complimentary mini maternity session. This way you can see yourself through my eyes which will give you more confidence that you are choosing the right person to document one of the most important and meaningful days of your life!
It's best to contact me sooner rather than later since I only take 2 births per month because I would never risk overlapping births! I understand that when you hire me, you are hiring ME for my work, my eye! So even though I do have a back up photographer, I would hate to have to send her in my place due to the fact that I overbooked. So, I just don't risk it. Ever.
The first 2 weeks of your baby's life goes so quickly. By the end of those 2 weeks your new baby has already done so much growing and the domino effect of changes start. Photograph your baby when they are new and fresh!
Newborn photoshoots are so calm and lovely. They are held in the comfort of your own home. I bring everything to you! This way there's no need to pack baby up and risk all that stress that often comes with trips in the car. You get to continue your daily routine because I always work around baby. It's often a nice break for the new parents. They can just sit back and relax.
Your heart will melt at the images of your new love.
Our family is very much apart of us! I love the togetherness of lifestyle family portraits. The rawness. Everyone being themselves together. A portrait with the whole family really tells a story!
Family portraits often start off in the home, especially with little ones. And then sometimes we take a walk around the neighbourhood to their favourite spots, like the local library, or ice cream shop. Or sometimes we'll meet somewhere like a beautiful park or a place that is sentimental to the family.
Contact me if you are thinking of having your family photographed. Tell me your ideas! Or if you aren't sure, I have a ton of suggestions too!
SO many milestones! So many changes!! Life is busy when you have wee ones, so be sure to stop every so often and document their lives! Their really busy, curious, fun, hilarious, clumsy, cheeky, beautiful lives! You really won't regret having collections of photos to always look back on and pass on to your children when they grow. And those photos will be something that even THEIR children will cherish. That's why photographs are the gift that keeps on giving!
As kids get older, they become more aware of the camera and capturing those genuine expressions can be very hard. So many parents resort to just the yearly school photo because their kids either don't want to get their pictures taken or the effort of setting up a photoshoot isn't worth the fake smiles. Well, time to think outside the studio!! If you want to make the photoshoot fun and effortless, choosing an outing that they enjoy like a trip to the park, or getting ice cream. Or having a photographer follow you around on daily errands, like dog walking, or grocery shopping, or a visit to the grandparents. Or simply using your own home as the studio all allow your child to be themselves, which is exactly what you want to capture in photographs, so being in their comfort zone makes that happen!! Basically, you gotta bring the photoshoot to your child instead of your child to the photoshoot.
A lot of people photograph their children and sometimes have a family session, but feel weird about having their own picture taken. You shouldn't! There's a lot of reasons to have your own portraits taken! Maternity, graduation, headshots, boudoir, portfolio building, modelling, business, and the list goes on!
You can also think outside the box and have a photoshoot for a girls night out, or a mommy group, or friends going for ice cream, or a team playing sports, walking your dogs, or maybe you got a new haircut or a new wardrobe you wanna show off! You can turn anything into a photoshoot as long as it's moments you want to remember. And sometimes, you may just want to be a model for a little while, so do it!
Most people think engagement when they think of photoshoots with couples, and although that is the number one reason why couples book photoshoots, it certainly not the only reason. Married couples who didn't get the wedding photos they wanted have a lot of fun dressing up again for a "trash the dress" or a more gentle "rewear the dress" session. Some couples who have been married for a while love to get fun and romantic for some updated photos together. And some couples just want some fun loving photos together without using the dreaded selfie stick because hey, not everyone wants to get married and you don't need a wedding in your life plans to get photos with your partner in crime! So lets plan an adventure and take some photos along the way!!
Shooting with film really really warms my soul. Taking pictures with a film camera feels way more casual and the whole process is super magical and exciting. Instead of shooting 20 frames of the same thing (like we all do with digital), I only take one, but it's always a carefully considered frame. There's more tonal range, especially in the shadows and it creates a different mood that just can't quite be recreated using digital and photoshop. I will never stop using film....unless it becomes obsolete. I love the nostalgia of it! It's so perfectly imperfect.
Whether it's a baby shower, a conference, a birthday party, or a haircut, some events are worth documenting. Your memories of your event will be documented in a way that every photo is brought to life and every time you look at the pictures, they will bring you right back to that special day.
Packages start at $500. **A 50% discount off Event Package B when booked with any Portrait Package. **Free haircut/portrait sessions for those wonderful souls who are donating their hair! **I don't charge hourly
This is a gallery for my personal project called My 365. It's one picture a day every day for a year starting on the first day of Spring, March 20th 2016. I started this project because as a full time photographer sometimes it's tough to find time and motivation to photograph my own children. I wanted and possibly needed a push, an inspiration! I found that inspiration when I learned to love the light in my crappy lit apartment. It doesn't have the light I thought I wanted. But after a change in my perspective and some encouragement from one of my favourite photographers, Meg Loeks, I found a love for the light! Just in time for Spring! The perfect reason to start a project like this!!
I wanted to share this one of my miniteenager. Yesterday was one of our favourite days of the year! We started the garden. Every year I let the girls choose their own flowers to care for. This year Adelaide took it more seriously. Not only focusing on colour, but also focusing on shape, and scent, and mostly whether they were helpful to our bees! 🐝💖 Which is a great tip for everyone!! Mind the bees by not killing them or destroying their hives. Help the bees by growing bee friendly plants and flowers. Bees are vital to our ecosystem, we need them!
29|365 : Perspective
New or old. Dead or alive. Spring or Fall. How ever you want to look at it is up to you. Just like everything in life, it's all about perspective. Audrey kept commenting about the dead crunchy leaves and Adelaide kept commenting on all the buds on the trees and new life sprouting out of the ground. It was this tree that changed Audrey's perspective.
28|365 : Hope
Today is filled with lots of hope! Spring brings that feeling doesn't it?! We are cleaning the balcony and planting flowers so we can open the outdoor living room (finally)!! But we're starting the day listening to Marvin and Tammi and baking chocolate banana bread! This little lady is really hoping that her "special powers" will help bake the bread faster!
27|365 : From Where I Stand
Today is a PA day so we're just hanging in our pjs this morning and Adelaide is showing us some of her recent videos she made. She loves using the iPhone camera and often I find myself the subject of her documentaries. She finds it most hilarious when she catches such ordinary moments, like just footage of Julian and I having morning coffee while discussing the day, or in this case, Julian and I sleeping just before they woke us up, which is what they're laughing so hard about right now. 😂 These moments that she captures are a real treasure. And her narration to these videos are so funny. One day we'll mash them together and Adelaide will release her first documentary. Just you wait! 😊
PS: I feel the need to explain Julians moustache...but I won’t.
26|365 : Movement
My goodness, there is a lot of movement right now, in so many different ways. With 2 little restless ladies who are ready for warm weather, with Spring cleaning in motion, and new inspirations, and putting plans in to action, it's pretty bonkers over here. So much is happening. And I have some big news coming your way later!!
25|365 : Authentic
This is the whole reason I started this project. I want to capture daily real life moments because these are the pictures that will always bring a flood of memories every time I look at them. They're so meaningful and emotional to me even though they're not exactly extravagant images. And you'll realize through this series, we bake a lot! I love baking and they really love helping!
24|365 : Horizon
"Hey Adelaide, tell me what you see out there over the horizon!” "Spring! I see Spring mom!" My goodness, I sure friggin hope so!!
23|365 : Culture
Culture is one of my favourite things. It's why I looooove (and really miss) travelling. Indulging in different cultures is so amazing. It's so eye opening. It's mind expanding. It's good for the soul. It really opens up your heart. I'm looking forward to the day when we can put on our backpack and hiking boots again and head back out in to the big wide world with our girls by our side this time. Oh the places we'll go! For now, we'll keep our minds and hearts and eyes open right here in Toronto, one of the most multicultural cities in the world. It's so beautiful! We love living here. And we also reeeeaaally love Cosmic Kids Yoga!
22|365 : Begins with G.
Glow. The girls wanted to make a birthday cake even though we didn't know anyone here who's birthday it was. We realized it was almost exactly 6 years ago that Julian and I arrived home from a 2 month trip in India and learned that Adelaide was growing inside me. That was definitely worth celebrating! So we made chocolate cake with pink icing topped with rainbow sprinkles and candles (of course)!
21|365 : Up
Building houses never gets old! This one she built up and made it a two story home for their play mobile dogs and cats to live in. I love how the window light reflects off the dresser.
20|365 : Strange
Well this IS strange. I was busy organizing some shelves when I heard silence. Every mom to a toddler knows that usually means you're about to walk in to a bad scene. But not this time!
19|365 : Depth of Field
Seriously? When did she grow up? 😩 Make it stop!
18|365 : Shape
Boxes are the best! They provide hours of entertainment. Starts off as a canvas, ends as a boat or car or dog house…
17|365 : Backward
Adelaide always goes back down when she gets to the top instead of going over the hump. She's my careful one. When there's a risk of injury, she doesn't risk it. Audrey on the other hand just goes and assumes everything will work out. It usually does...but not always.
16|365 : On The Table
Crepes covered in chocolate and topped with strawberries and bananas. Happiest 3 year old!
15/365 : Down
It's been a real gloomy start to Spring. So we make obstacle courses in the house. Lots of running and climbing and jumping!
14|365 : Begins with A
My Audrey, brushing her craaaazy hair. Both my children were given A names. We tried to avoid that, but I honestly think my children chose their own names. They weren't named until about a week after they were born. The names they ended up with were not even on our list of options. Had we named them before they were born Adelaide would have been Amelia, and Audrey would have been Josephine.
13|365 : Me
Real moments in my life are rarely caught on camera. But my husband was holding my camera and hangin with Audrey when he got this shot of Adelaide and I heading to the checkout counter at Sonic Boom with some new records to add to our collection. I feel like this really sums me up in one picture. I cherish these rare pictures so friggin much!
12|365 : At This Moment
Every time I'm at a birth I can't help but resurface the feelings of my births. I always go back to this moment! It was at this moment of my life that I knew my calling was the birth world. If you knew me before I got pregnant with Adelaide, you might be surprised because we absolutely did not want children and birth and breastfeeding totally freaked me out. We just wanted to travel and write. Which will happen again one day, but right now, I'm soooo in to this! Birth is just the most incredible most emotional thing. I can't get enough!!
PS: I couldn't find a birth photographer for Audrey's birth because it was a very new industry so my friend was going to do it, but everything was so fast that she didn't make it. Luckily my amazing doula friend @bafaris (who everyone in Winnipeg should have at their birth) just grabbed the camera and caught some incredible moments for me, like this one! I'm forever grateful!! I only wish more than anything that I had someone document Adelaide's birth too.
11|365 : Spin
s you may know, Adelaide has an awesome 1970s fisher price record player of her very own. But at the record store she was really admiring all the different kinds. Her mind was a little blown and I'm thinking she'll be ready for her own little not so old and rustic record player in her room one day soon.
10|365 : There
These two are always somewhere over there imagining things or collecting things. I think they were collecting bits to make a birds nest. What ever they were doing they looked adorable! Seriously, those fox hoods are the only things making this cold spring bearable for me.
Today my fam jam celebrated Easter in Kensington Market, one of our favourite neighbourhoods. It was a gorgeous day to be out and about eating delicious food! When we came along these folks we had to stop and dance with the crowd and drop a few bucks in their guitar case. Adelaide was so impressed with everything about that woman. Just in awe!
7|365 : Versatile
Bath aren't just for bathing, playing, and relaxing. They're Audrey's favourite place to drink her cooooold smoothies!
6|365 : Passion
Just say "chocolate" to this kid...!
5|365 : Contrast
Today was a gloomy icy day. But we got a parcel from Winnipeg which clearly kept Audrey busy all afternoon.
4|365 : Energy
The adrenaline rush when it collapses! Sometimes it ends in giggles and sometimes it ends in tears. This is Adelaide at that emotional fork in the road. This particular collapse ended in laughter!
3|365 : Alone
When I clean or cook I usually put on a record and turn up the volume. My children use the living room as a dance floor. I caught this picture of Adelaide when she was in her own world. Eyes closed and super dramatic. Perfectly appropriate when listening to Adele.
2|365 : Daydream
I love our city. I love our community. And I really love our home. If there was one thing I could change it would be the light! I have really crappy light in my home! It's not the light I want! Which is why I don't photograph my children in our home as much as I'd like. But these past few weeks have been a game changer as I've pushed myself! Since everything in life is about perspective, I just had to change mine! So I'm working with the light I do have, and turns out it's really beautiful and dreamy!
1|365 : Spring Time
Wow, so here I go! First day of spring, first day of my photo challenge! Spring really brings you out of your winter cave! It brings inspiration and hope (especially if you're one who starts feeling gloomy by the end of the long cold winter season like me.) We are so happy to be able to ride our bikes to the park to play! We are so happy to see tulips popping out of the ground! We're just so happy to be able to spend the day outside without getting numb limbs and blue lips! Hello Spring! I'm so so damn happy you are here!!!
