Miles, 7 Days Old

This little guy came in to the world 3 days before we had a maternity session scheduled. Even though mama was a little disappointed about the maternity photos, we laughed about his fast early arrival. Clearly he was eager to meet his siblings, who I also had the privilege of photographing a couple years prior which you can see from the canvases hanging on the wall in the first picture, or by going back in the blog archives here.
Big brother is clearly going to be taking on the role as family photographer so he’ll be documenting his family’s day to day life, while sister cuddles her new baby brother at every chance she gets. We ended our lifestyle portrait session with some studio-like newborn poses. We put some cute hats on him and all melted as we watched him sleep so peacefully. Scroll down to see some of my favourite shots from this session.

Sage, 5 Days Old.

Five days after I documented Sage’s birthing day, I arrived at their home for their newborn session. Lifestyle newborn sessions are very sentimental and will definitely give you all the nostalgic feels. Baby’s grow so fast! In fact, your sweet little newborn is only a newborn for a few weeks! Whether it’s your first, second, third or eighth, it’s a very very fast phase that comes during a time of huge transition. It’s easy to miss the moments and sometimes it’s hard to embrace this time when there’s a lot going on and little sleep is had. If you can find a day, one day, just for a couple hours to schedule a newborn session, you will be very grateful you did because in no time at all, you will be looking at these photos wondering where the time went and likely even forgetting about the sleep deprivation and sore leaking breasts leaving room for the wonderful memories like sweet cuddles, tiny toes, and that adorable froggy pose that newborns stay in. The best part about lifestyle newborn sessions is that I come to you! Being in the comfort of your own home during this time makes it easier on everybody, especially mama and baby! And if your first thought was, “oh, but my home is a mess!” Just take comfort in knowing that most people with newborns live in a bit of chaos, of course! And I just need a very little amount of space in which I can easily move things out of my frame if need be. So, mess or no mess, it’s your wonderful life and it’s worth documenting!
