Alma and Wilder met one week before these photos were taken. These siblings met at the Toronto Birth Centre moments after Wilder was born and I was there to document the whole thing! If you have not yet seen that slideshow you should! It's beautiful. This mom totally rocked that birth and she totally radiates during and afterwards! You will also see how incredibly hands on Alma was from the get go. So helpful and motherly. It was clearly a true reflection of her own parents. I have spent 3 separate occasions with this little lady, and I could see that when she's inspired by something, she goes for it. For example, at the maternity session she was a very proud butterfly who fluttered around and smelled all the flowers! And at the birth she was very intrigued with the midwives and what they were doing that she pretty much took over the placenta tour! And you'll see below that not only was she playing mom, she also became the photographer for a while during our family session. She has so much spunk and I was so glad I was able to capture some of that while I hung out with her as her new baby bro was being nursed. After spending that time with Alma it was time to take pictures of Wilder as he lay sound asleep looking so dreamy and perfectly squishy. I think these photos can tell the story. So please scroll down to see my favourites from this session!
Yas is Growing Up!
Baby Yas is very special to me. Her birth was the first one I documented here in Toronto. I have photographed a total of 19 now with 2016 booking up really fast!! And you can bet your bottom dollar that I remember every single one. But Yas, she was my first here in TO and it’s been a real honour to see her grow in to a sweet little lady! These photos are from her recent photoshoot in November when she was almost 18 months old! We started the session off by walking around their neighbourhood and played at their favourite local park. Then we headed home where Yas showed me some of her favourite toys around the house. We did her newborn session there so it was special to do this one there too! In home session are great, especially for young kids and especially during the cold months! Not only is it more personal and original to photograph your family in a place that is sentimental to you, but children are most comfortable in their own space. Everyone is! Being comfortable will help them to let loose and be themselves allowing me to capture them as they are so you have real memories in the form of photographs that will stay meaningful forever.
Reevin
I spent one morning with this adorable 6 month old and his family photographing them in their home. In home sessions are some of my favourite sessions! They are more real and honest. People feel more comfortable in their own home, so they are able to let loose a bit more and I am able to capture everyday moments as they happen naturally. With Reevin, we played for a bit with his toys so he would warm up to me. This age group is usually a lot more social and happy to flash all the smiles so that didn’t take long at all. After we played for a bit we headed to the back yard to enjoy the sun until it was lunch time. After lunch we read some books and then Reevin took a bath before nap. Of course I documented all of it creating such genuine portraits that are extremely personal and original and capture real memories. Because lets be honest, when your kids grow older, it’s not just the adorable face you want to remember, it’s the real life moments you want to remember forever as well.
