Birth Meetings By Season

For those who want their birthing day documented I always suggest we meet first! It’s good to speak face to face and get to know each other a little before I document one of the best days of your life! This meeting includes a mini maternity session so you can get a feel for being in front of my lens. I want you to see yourself in my images so you can trust me to capture this life altering moment! The birth of your baby is a hard exhausting day. But it’s a day full of real raw emotion and incredibly beautiful connections. I have been documenting births for over 10 years and it’s becoming more and more popular, but I am aware that it’s still in the process of gaining traction. I still get a lot of people give me a weird look when they find out I am a birth photographer. So if you are someone who hasn’t really seen a birth story, and perhaps are raising your eyebrow about the whole thing, then I encourage you to watch some birth stories! After watching just one, you’ll know exactly why people want this life changing experience documented!

Cadence's Birthing Day

{birth story}

This couple reached out to me about documenting the birth of their 2nd baby, but sadly my birth schedule was fully booked. So when they reached out to me for their third baby I was very happy to have an opening for their estimated due date. I met with this family (which you can see here) and she told me they were planning the birth at the birth centre, which always makes me a little extra excited!! Have you seen that place?!? It’s beautiful and so cozy and inviting!! So in the early morning hours on March 29th, I got “the call”. When I arrive I walked in to a room so calm with a very focused mama. As she worked through her contractions she would listen and watch adorable videos on her phone of her children giggling and playing. It was really sweet that they were virtually there to help support their mama on their new siblings birthing day. Well, it wasn’t long before baby made her debut!! So fast, so wide eyed and alert! When her brother and sister arrived to shower her with cuddles, my heart just exploded. Watching siblings meet for the first time will never ever get old. A Brother for Christmas!

Is there really a better gift than a new baby during the holidays? This big sister will tell you NO WAY! Her love and curiosity for her brother was very apparent! When I arrived at their home for a Meet the Baby session big sister was helping get her brother ready before they all cuddled and jumped on the bed. After hanging out there for a while, we headed downstairs to the festive living room. Of course we were letting their toddler lead the session so she decided it was time to play dress up! YES! Their costumes were absolutely perfect! Baby brother was pretty hungry after all that fun, so we declared it snack time! He got quite sleepy after snack which allowed us to get some sweet shots of him under the Christmas tree before laying him on the bed for some suuuuper adorable close ups of all his cuteness!!
I seriously love it when families welcome me in to their home so I can capture these personal and very sweet authentic moments of them. Winter is a very popular time for in home sessions because during the colder months it’s hard for the children to be outside for too long. But being in your own home will add a whole new level of nostalgia to your images. And honestly, it’s not uncommon that we end the session outside playing in the back yard or at a local park, or building snow people and making snow angels, or having snowball fights.
